Nestled between history and nature, Saint-Jean-de-Luz is a true gem of the Basque coast. Whether with family or friends, discover our itinerary for a perfect day.
- The City Center
The city center is a true must-see. The region’s typical architecture and the traditional fishing port lend a distinctive charm to the town. History enthusiasts can explore the Saint Jean Baptiste church, the site of the marriage between King Louis XIV and the Infanta of Spain Marie-Thérèse. And for gourmands, with macarons de Pariès (muxu), canougats, and the famous Basque cake, there is plenty to delight your palate!
- Socoa Fort:
After exploring the city center, we recommend a stroll along the coast towards Socoa Fort. This historical landmark is steeped in history, having notably protected Saint-Jean-de-Luz from Spanish adversaries. You will also be able to admire a breathtaking view of the town.
Socoa Fort is a 40-minute walk from Saint-Jean-de-Luz city center, but it can also be reached in 10 minutes by car.
- The Main Beach:
Once back in Saint-Jean-de-Luz, a short break is well deserved. While a classic, the Main Beach is perfect for this. There is nothing quite like a delightful snack on the beach to recuperate after a pleasant walk.
- Sainte Barbe Point:
This location is a particular highlight. Situated on a small rise at the edge of the town, Sainte Barbe Point overlooks the town. It offers magnificent sunsets where land meets sea. While there is certainly much more to discover, this itinerary will allow you to experience the town’s most beautiful attractions in a single day.
