Turrón or nougat: what is the real difference?

Spanish turrón is often confused with nougat, yet they are two very distinct specialties.

Turrón is a 100% Spanish specialty, crafted primarily from Spanish almonds, honey, sugar, and egg white, following strict traditional methods.

At Maria Simona, our turrón is of Supreme Quality, with a high almond content (minimum 60%), a natural texture, and an IGP-certified recipe, guaranteeing its origin and authenticity.

Nougat, on the other hand, is a broader specialty, often associated with Southern France or Italy. Its composition varies more widely, its texture is generally softer, and it does not systematically benefit from origin certification as strictly regulated as turrón’s IGP.

In summary:

  • Maria Simona turrón represents Spain in its noblest form
  • nougat is a European sweet with more variable recipes

Two delicacies… but only one IGP-certified Supreme Quality.

Maria Simona: when turrón is not just good, it’s authentically Spanish
